What makes a great coach/leader

I just heard Hall of Fame basketball player, Isaiah Thomson say this, "The great coaches work from the neck up. The bad coaches work from the neck down."

He expanded that the great coaches, at any level, teach the mental aspect of the game as well as life lessons - how to help the person become a better person. The bad coaches just work on skills.
